Reasons to study Early Years, Childcare and Education
Pearson has developed the content of the BTEC National in collaboration with employers and representatives from higher education and relevant professional bodies. Content is up to date and includes the knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes required in the sector. The course has been developed in consultation with employers, Higher Education institutions and professional bodies. It only takes up one block so you can study other A-Levels / L3 courses alongside it. Students can expect to progress to university to study courses that involve working with children (primary school teachers, paediatric nurses, social workers, speech therapist).
What you will study
Some of the core modules consist of: Children’s Development, Development of Children’s Communication, Literacy and Numeracy Skills and Play and Learning. You will also complete 50 hours’ work experience in the sector.
Entry Criteria
DBS clearance GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths, English and if you are planning on a career in teaching you will also require a grade 4 in science ability to work independently reading and research skills experience working with children would be beneficial but not essential
How you will be assessed
Internal and external assessments including assessed coursework units, a written question and answer-based examination and a research-based assessment which will be externally-set and assessed.
Priestley extra
Various trips such as a residential in London where you will visit The Children’s Museum. Trip to Disneyland Paris. Christmas Markets and The Science and Industry Museum. Visits to universities to explore their Early Years and Health-related degrees as well as a tour of their campuses, taking part in lectures and finding out other general information relating to tuition and accommodation fees.

Progression
Progress to university to study Early Childhood Studies, Social Work, Primary School Teaching, Nursing and other related degrees or you may wish to continue further training to achieve the Early Years Educator Status.
