Reasons to study Physical Education
This course offers a fantastic insight into the amazing world of sports performance.
It is ideal for those who perform or coach on a regular basis in one of the DfE approved activities (please check your sport is included)
The course covers a broad spectrum of diverse topics and therefore goes well with any combination of subjects.
What you will study
Units include: Exercise Physiology Training and Performance, Movement Analysis, Technology and Biomechanics, Skill Acquisition, Sports Psychology and Sport and Society.
You will study the content of this course in both theoretical and practical lessons
Entry Criteria
to be coaching or performing on a regular basis as 30% of the total mark is based on your practical ability and knowledge within your chosen activity
good understanding of science-based theory is recommended
ability to study independently, keeping up to date with your course notes and meet deadlines

How you will be assessed
70% written examinations (multiple choice, single mark, short answer and extended response questions)
15% assessment of your practical performances, as either a coach or a performer and 15% written project (both sections are based on a selected activity of your choice)

Guest speakers as well as visits such as to the Manchester Velodrome or warm weather training at Club La Santa in Lanzarote. You will also be encouraged to gain work-based and volunteering experience.

Progression
Range of career opportunities including sports development, sport science, coaching, physiotherapy, personal training or teaching. However, the course covers a diverse range of topics and when studied in conjunction with other subjects can lead to a variety of career pathways. Please note that this course is regarded as being scientifically robust and can be used as an alternative to Biology to access many medical-based careers.
