Reasons to study Production Arts
Priestley has an outstanding reputation and track record for students progressing onto Production Arts related subjects within the most prestigious universities and theatre schools.
The course is 50% practical and 50% theory
Excellent preparation for a career in numerous backstage areas such as Stage Management, Lighting Design, Set Design, Costume, Sound Design and Theatrical and SFX Makeup. Production Arts students work on every element of the production, but don’t perform on the stage!
Opportunities to take a number of production roles inside and outside of college.
What you will study
Year 1 (Foundation Diploma) – Develop your skills in numerous areas such as stage lighting, sound, SFX makeup, projection and set design.
Opportunity to design, build, operate and stage manage a performance.
You will work on numerous live performances throughout the academic year and develop skills by putting them into practice.
Year 2 (Extended Diploma) – Develop your new skills with a focus on your preferred expertise. You will prepare yourself for university, theatre schools or apprenticeships by researching different industry careers.
Entry Criteria
with outside commitments of around 60 hours to include assessments for performance roles
to attend a mandatory workshop to assess your suitability for the course
interest in theatre and wider production genres
ability to take part in essential rigging, technical rehearsals and performances outside of normal college hours
willingness and ability to work in a team and independently
How you will be assessed
Practical job roles for productions
Coursework in the form of online portfolios using written, video, verbal responses and photographic evidence to support the work undertaken.
Priestley extra
Trips sampling different performance genres including The Harry Potter Studios in Leavesden as well as the opportunity to join the wider Media and Performing Arts trip to New York. Numerous enrichment activities ranging from Stage Makeup to Technical one-to-one tuition. Work experience.

Progression
Numerous university courses including Stage Makeup, Lighting Design, Set Design, Stage Management and General Technical Degrees. Careers and further training posts have recently included students gaining prestigious technical and set design degrees across the country. This course can be combined with other creative subjects such as Dance, Fine Art and Textiles, Performing Arts and Music. However, students have also combined this course with a wide range of none creative subjects.
